Confident people inspire confidence in others. In business those who exude confidence are usually the most successful. They become leaders in their field. So confidence is an important ingredient to success.
Self-confidence is important in all areas of life. Confident people tend to achieve more, are happier and healthier. People who lack self confidence resist performing activities that lead to successful outcomes. They worry about what others think of them, they dwell on their failures and avoid taking risks.
Thankfully, self-confidence can be learned through setting and achieving goals as well as building a confident mindset.
Below are 3 tips to building more confidence in yourself and your business.
- Prepare with education & mindset to develop confidence
One way to develop more confidence in yourself and your business is to get training and support. If the reason you’re stuck is skill related, then investing in some training and/or coaching support will help you to develop more confidence. But don’t use feeling “not good enough” as an excuse to stay stuck and in preparation mode taking endless courses that just stay unopened on your laptop.
You will also need to work on your mindset in order to develop a great level of confidence. Let go of past fears and failures energetically. It’s rarely enough to simply repeat affirmations and try maintaining a positive mindset. You need to address the issue in both mind and body, not just the mind, otherwise, it’s like trying to hold a beach ball under water. Eventually, the air in the ball is going to force it to the surface. Our negative emotions fueled by limiting unsupportive beliefs are like that too. You need to release the air in the beach ball in order to hold it under the water or release it all together. Same with your negative emotions. - Take action despite your fear to develop confidence
Taking action is one of the fastest ways to build confidence. By setting small goals and achieving them, you start to build momentum and confidence. And the fear starts to go away altogether. All those thoughts of “what will they think” “who am I to believe I can do this” start to fade into the background.
Allow yourself to make mistakes along the way. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Let go of perfectionism because done is better than perfect.
And sometimes, for bigger scarier goals, you just have to take a deep breath and to it. It is rarely as scary as you think it will be and you will likely feel elated. Kind of like jumping off a high diving board into a deep pool. A little bit of fear is fine and natural. - Keep the momentum going to build more confidence
Stretch yourself out of your comfort zone and set bigger goals. With each new goal reached, you will be unstoppable and your confidence will expand.
Take stock of your strengths and successes. Develop a confidence resume in your journal and lists all of the things you’re proud of and all of the challenges you’ve managed to overcome whether business related or not. This will reinforce your belief that you are capable of great things. And going forward, remember to celebrate every small success or challenge you overcome.
